NAIROBI, Kenya, July 10 – TECNO has upgraded its AI assistant with EllaClaw, a new agentic AI capability designed to help users complete everyday smartphone tasks through natural language commands instead of manually navigating multiple apps and settings.
The feature, currently available in closed beta on the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G, is integrated into TECNO’s existing AI Assistant, Ella, marking the company’s latest push to deliver what it describes as Practical AI.
Unlike conventional AI assistants that primarily answer questions, EllaClaw is designed to understand user requests, plan the required steps and execute tasks across supported applications after receiving user permission.
Among its core capabilities is automated phone management, allowing users to optimise device performance using simple voice prompts. For instance, users can ask the assistant to cool down an overheating phone, after which it automatically identifies and executes the necessary system adjustments. The assistant also includes Smart Data Guardian, a feature that monitors mobile data usage, learns consumption patterns and alerts users when unusual activity is detected.
TECNO has also expanded the assistant’s ability to work across third-party applications through what it calls Seamless Cross-App Intelligence. Rather than switching between multiple apps to complete a task, users can issue a single request, such as booking a ride, and EllaClaw carries out the process on supported applications.
The company said the assistant can interact with transportation, shopping, food delivery, travel, smart home and system-level applications by visually interpreting app interfaces in a manner similar to human users. However, the capability remains in beta and may not yet support every application consistently.
Beyond task execution, EllaClaw is designed to function as a proactive digital companion by learning user habits through a persistent memory system. The assistant can organise incoming SMS messages, identify useful information such as bills, appointments and reservations, and convert them into structured reminders and notes.
TECNO said privacy and security remain central to the assistant’s design. Every interaction involving sensitive information or third-party applications requires explicit user authorisation, while users can monitor each action the assistant performs and interrupt or stop a task at any time.
For sensitive actions, including making calls, sending messages or modifying contacts, EllaClaw requires an additional confirmation before proceeding. The company added that the assistant does not access payment, money transfer or digital wallet interfaces.
The upgrade reflects the growing adoption of agentic AI, which enables artificial intelligence to perform tasks on behalf of users rather than simply responding to prompts.
Although still in closed beta, TECNO says EllaClaw represents its vision of making AI a practical everyday companion capable of reducing routine smartphone management and allowing users to focus on more meaningful activities.
